Dr Alan C Carter
Alan Carter qualified in Edinburgh in 1974. He has had a keen interest in replacing lost teeth and placed his first implant in 1986 after attending courses in Manchester and Germany.
Alan routinely places the implants within our practice but when treatments of greater complexity are undertaken, he works with his colleague Paul Tran.
We are able to help patients by simply replacing a missing tooth, to firmly fixing down a loose denture with implants.
Alan has also had two implants placed himself to replace two failed teeth and says 'I found the whole procedure painless and the final result is that I have my own teeth back again - they feel and chew just like the originals - and are now much stronger!'
Patients just beginning to think about dental implant treatment may find it helpful to have a complimentary preliminary consultation with Dr Carter. This consultation will help you consider the options for treating your dental problems and decide whether to proceed to a clinical consultation for implants. The preliminary consultation is free of charge for visitors enquiring through this website. Please use the form on the right of this page to request a free consutlation or futher information.
Once you have decided in principle that you want implant treatment, we will provide you with a fully-costed individual plan for your treatment. Patients sometimes need to discuss things with us for a second time and we are delighted to be able to offer this second visit or even just a reassuring chat on the phone.
- Replacement of single or multiple missing teeth
- Fixing down loose dentures with implants
The cost of replacing a single tooth with an implant and crown is £2,400 and a full lower denture held by two implants is £4,950 including a new lower denture.
In larger spaces, it is not necessary to substitue an implant for every tooth which is lost. Implants are very strong and will carry bridgework as well as single teeth.
Dr Paul Tran, our visiting implantologist, has been placing dental implants for many years. As a doctor, dentist and oral surgeon he is perfectly placed to perform all degrees of complex implant treatments.
"Since having Dr Alan Carter insert implants recently in my lower jaw my life has been transformed for the better. I now can eat a more varied diet, smile at will and generally feel much happier about myself.
The procedure was virtually pain free and for me, the patient, simple. Dr Carters confidence and skill from start to finish was very re-assuring. I do not hesitate to recommend to anyone considering implants to go ahead and do it, the rewards speak for themselves."
"Thank you for the intricate engineering work performed by you. I want to thank all the staff for the care and kindness shown during my visits.
Initially, my top teeth were not too happy with their new neighbours, but now all the teeth feel very natural. I am delighted with the result. Thank you for the disk of my scans. It may be useful if I consider more implants. That could have you rushing into retirement!"
"I have referred patients to Alan for implants and have been very happy with the results. They have been seen promptly and have had a full explanation of treatment options and costings. All the patients I referred have been delighted with their new implants and I will continue to refer patients to Alan. He has also kept me informed of progress and involved me in discussions of maintenance for my patients. A great service!" - Dr Janet Clarke, Ferryburn Dental Care, South Queensferry, Edinburgh
